Strong ties of businessman John Christodoulou with his special homeland and the occupied Sysklipo. Emotion at the award ceremony for Mr. John Christodoulou for his many years of contribution. In an emotional atmosphere, the residents of the occupied community of Sysklipos honored their fellow-citizen, our founder Mr. John Christodoulou, for his many years of contribution to the Cypriot society and to Cypriots around the world. As mentioned by the community leader Mr. Andreas Hadjithomas, "we warmly thank Mr. Yiannis Christodoulou for his great contribution and love for our village". The community leader poetically expressed this love, reciting "If the mountains could lower, to see Sysklipo, I would go by foot, even if I wore no shoes". At the ceremony, a representative of the Bishop of Kyrenia attended, the renowned painter Andreas Ladommatos, other distinguished guests, and a large crowd. Mr. Christodoulou emphasized once again his strong ties to his special homeland, Cyprus, and his beloved village, Sysklipo. As he mentioned in a cheerful tone: "I lived very pleasant moments as a child in my grandfather's village. I remember standing on the donkey, cutting 'prickly pears', and many other things. I also know that my grandfather, Christodoulos, helped to build and later repair the church. Therefore, as soon as I heard that our church needed repairs, I felt the need to contribute." He thanked all those present for the appreciation they showed towards him and mentioned that the next annual feast of his fellow-citizens will be hosted by him! References were also made to the intense support from Mr. Christodoulou, through the Philanthropic Foundation ‘Yianis Christodoulou Foundation’, towards the student community of Cyprus and many other. The ceremony took place within the context of the annual reunion of the Sysklipos community, who maintain strong ties, honorably commemorate the memory of the 27 fallen and missing persons, which includes civilians, children, and elderly. A minute of silence was kept in their memory, and the people of Sysklipos renewed their desire to return. The village of Sysklipos today has about 530 residents in Cyprus and abroad. Recently, with contributions from fellow-citizens worldwide and the support of UNDP, the first phase of the conservation of the occupied church "Panagia Chryseleousa" has been completed. The strong desire of the residents to maintain their ties with their occupied village, which is both morally and materially embraced by Mr. Christodoulou, is evident from their clear plans for further restoration of their church, the erection of a monument for the Fallen and Missing of the Community, and many more projects.
