In a deeply emotional and culturally rich event, over 500 people gathered on Sunday 20.10.24 at Ktima Kousioumi in Nicosia for the annual reunion of the residents of the occupied village of Sysklipos. The event went beyond a simple reunion, becoming a vibrant celebration of community, friendship, and shared heritage.
This gathering was made possible by the unwavering support of Cypriot businessman and philanthropist John Christodoulou, whose ongoing commitment to empowering communities and preserving their heritage was evident throughout the event. In addition to fully supporting the event, John Christodoulou offered significant prizes for the community raffle, including stays at his prestigious hotels in London and dinners.
Distinguished guests, including U.S. Ambassador Julie Fisher, the President of the Nicosia District Organization of Local Government, Constantinos Yiorkadjis, Bishop of Kyrenia Chrysostomos, and Cypriot Ambassador to Israel H.E. Kornelios Korneliou, honored the event with their presence. In his address, Ambassador Korneliou praised the timeless and steadfast work of John Christodoulou, describing his contributions to Cyprus as multifaceted and deeply impactful.
John Christodoulou, in his heartfelt remarks, said: “I am here today because I strongly support our roots, our heritage, our homeland, and our occupied villages. And I do not forget.” He also expressed gratitude for the overwhelming love and support shown by the community, his family and his team.
Community leader Andreas Hadjithomas warmly welcomed the guests, offering heartfelt thanks to John Christodoulou for his enduring commitment, saying, “Thank you for never forgetting us.”
In recognition of his dedication, renowned painter Andreas Ladomamatos presented John Christodoulou with an impressive painting of the Sysklipos village, created especially for the occasion, symbolizing the deep connection between the community and its benefactor.
